| On 22 April 2007,
Limahl presented on the Isle Of
Wight the sounds of the 80s with a totally new
look – as an 80s swing show.
With the support of the Rob James
Orchestra consisting of ten musicians, Limahl
took the stage and kicked off with the catchy tune ‘Too
shy’.
At first, it sounded quite odd to all the listeners. But
with the joy of singing and playing and the fun that could
be seen in the faces of the musicians, it wasn't long
before the excitement had the audience swinging along
with the band. So the preparation of the arrangement,
which took six months and the countless rehearsals paid
off. After each song, Limahl did his best to show his
entertaining sense of humor. Everybody in the hall noticed
once more that there was an artist on stage who loved
his audience, and in return they acclaimed his show.
The set list of the evening was as follows
Too Shy / Only for Love / Do you
really want to hurt me / Power of Love / Tainted Love
/ True / Electric dreams / What a feeling / Spiderman
/ Lessons in love / Something about you / Neverending
Story / Too shy (Zugabe)
So what is Limahl thinking of his new 80s show? Here
you will learn it:
"I had such a great feeling inside as we entered
the stage to perform it for the first time - knowing
what we had up our sleeves (musically speaking) and
thankfully we were not wrong - the audience showed their
approval with loud applause (always a nice sound).
As I approach the big 50 (in 18 months) it feels like
the right time to tackle this highly respected musical
genre which has become popular again in recent years
(even hip actually) through great artists like Michael
Buble', Paul Anka and even Robbie Williams.
The 80's Swing Show is a tribute to my own musical
era if you like (the 80's) but with a twist -as it embraces/incorporates
the style that most of us grew up listening to through
our mums and dads, 'Swing'."
