Biggis report about the 'Best of Formel Eins - Die Show' in Unterföhring on 21st April 2004

When Katja asked me if I had any plans for the 21st April I hadn't had a clue of what her intentions might be. She then told me about Limahl's date in Munich and that it wouldn't that far away. It would be the opportunity I had waited for so long for. In 2003, I regrettably didn't have the chance to see him live and the Comeback Show in Cologne was simply too far to travel for me.

'Best Of Formel Eins - Die Show'

Actually, I couldn't go there because I had to work on that day - as so often. When, a couple of days later, Katja gave me a call to tell me that she would come and bring Betty along, I was hooked right away about this idea. On one hand, I couldn't wait to see Limahl live any longer. While others were lucky to see him about six times, I was one of the unfortunates who, because of my residence, couldn't be there. On the other hand, I finally got the chance to get to know Betty and I couldn't miss it. ;-). So we had the pleasure of seeing Limahl in Munich - or better speaking in Unterföhring.

The drive to Munich was very funny. A lot of years had passed since I was there last. And I had never been to those studios before. Thank god I had hard-working assistants in the car - I drove, they were looking for the way *laugh*. With good teamwork it was then easy to find. When we passed the entrance to find a parking place, Limahl was just getting out of the car and was about to enter the studio. Unfortunately, we arrived too late. But as we knew that we would still see Limahl on stage we calmed down directly.

We had to be patient for a while until the doors were opened. As I had never been in such a studio before I was amazed how small it was in reality. Finally, the time had come and we approached the stage. Just a couple of drinks and then we went to the first row without any problems.

Martin Fry

First, some other artists from the 80s performed their song. I really liked 'Münchner Freiheit' at that time and was surprised that the boys hadn't changed that much. Sam Brown had still got her sensational voice. Not as good as it used to be but still very good. Oh well, Scorpions, not really what I like listening to. For a lot of people they were all the rage, but at the time I thought they were definitively too loud. But there were indeed some artists who are still quite popular nowadays and could prove their ability live on stage: Howard Jones and Martin Fry of ABC.

Limahl

It was almost at the end of the show before it was Limahl's turn and the mood suddenly changed for the better. It almost seemed as if many people in the audience had just waited for that moment. At least that was my impression. He smiled down the stage and I had a notion as if he was pleased to see some familiar faces from Cologne again ;-) He sang 'Too Shy' – also live, of course! It was unfortunately too short but everybody in the studio clapped their hands and sang enthusiastically along. He even sang a little bit acapella. The audience sang along out loud, of course. While standing onstage Limahl clapped on some hands and one girl even got a kiss. Enviable, isn't it? ;-) He really knows how to win over the audience and to get into them.

Limahl giving autographs

After the show he came to the edge of the stage, wrote some autographs and fans could get a photo with him. I got an autograph on my t-shirt. He was really nice and in high spirits. I only missed one thing: again I had actually 'forgotten' again to give him a properly big hug. He ALWAYS got this effect on me. I simply forget everything. That's fun, isn't it, you suddenly notice that you can't be old enough to 'act like an adult' in such a situation.

There were, of course, some other fans as well and we got to know some of them a bit closer. We talked somewhat but then it was time to drive back home since it was in the middle of the week.

I'm always looking forward to hoping for such an event. You can't simply forget such an evening. And I was totally pleased to get to know Betty. I hope I could somehow describe the feeling and the event that I could experience and I'm already waiting for the next opportunity to listen to that ingenious and velvety voice of Limahl live again.

Yours Biggi
