After Limahl had finished his performance, we went to the arranged meeting point. Then we were guided to the registry office of the Oranienburg Castle where the 'meet & greet' took place by a hostess.
I was terribly excited. Dani and Flower took me by the hand and full of expectations, we went into the room where normally weddings took place. In front of the altar, there were eight chairs positioned in a circle and we were asked to enter. Shortly after, the crew of Limahl came in followed by him.
Everybody took a seat and Limahl started the conversation right away. He asked how everybody was. One girl asked Limahl if he still gets nervous at his concerts. He answered by saying that he is always afraid of breakdowns, like the evening when his microphone did not work. First, he thought the monitor was out of order because he could not hear himself. But due to the reaction of the audience he realized that the microphone was switched off. He was quite angry because before the show he especially asked the sound engineer if it is really switched on. Then he told of a performance when he almost fell into a lift shaft while going backwards from the stage. He was held by someone, however, and thus saved Limahl's life. Therefore, Limahl always fears stumbling or falling down before going on stage.
The same girl then wanted to know which his most moving performance was. He engaged in serious soul-searching and told about a meeting with Princess Margaret, a member of the British royal house. There he also met Diana. The room became silent. Limahl looked thoughtfully and everybody was silent for a couple of seconds. Then he continued. The 40th birthday of Elton John was also quite impressive, he said.
He was asked if he could still remember the first song he has ever sung. He thought for a while and answered: "Sure, I remember, it was Edelweiß." To our surprise he started singing this song acapella.
After this, someone asked if some new stuff would be published. He said that it is quite difficult for him but there wouldn't be new stuff before 2005 and after this, he does not know. However, he always wants to be on a stage by all means because it is his life. He started to tell that he listens to the music of Midge Ure and he asked the people if the song "Vienna" by "Ultravox" was also a hit in Germany. He also told us that when he was a child he was a big fan of "Motown". He also liked "Sting" and the "Beatles". One of his favourite songs was "When I'm sixy-four" which he sang acapella quite spontaneously. We applauded full of enthusiasm.
At this moment, the conversation was broken off. The hostess stood up and thanked Limahl for coming and said that the planned time was over. However, everybody had the opportunity to get a photo with Limahl. He took his time and everybody got his photo and an autograph card personally signed by him.
On this occasion, I would like to thank Flower and Dani who made it possible to have such a wonderful evening!!! Furthermore, I want to pass a special thank to Mr Thomas of the Mittelbrandenburgische Sparkasse in Potsdam. Without him this meeting would not have been possible. And, of course, last but not least, I would like to thank Limahl who took a lot of time for his fans. I will never forget this evening.
