On 5th June 2004, the day finally arrived and the first live gig of Limahl in Germany after the 'Comeback Show' took place at the theme park Tripsdrill, close to Heilbronn. Although this event had the funny name 'I-am-looking-forward-to-the-summer' party, it didn't really like feel like summer's sunny and warm temperatures at all. All day long, dark rain clouds loomed overhead and every now and then there was a heavy shower. In the evening, the rain cleared, however, and the gods for the weather brought us dry, but cool weather.
The party of Hit-Radio Antenne 1 (a local radio station in Germany) went off at 8 pm with Markus and Hubert Kah. Both tried to put the audience into good humour, but the spark of enthusiasm didn't really spread to the 4,000 visitors. Also the little games with the spectators during the break could only provide a temporary exhilaration because everybody was waiting for only one person: Limahl.
So the highlight entered the stage at about 9:40 pm and in an instant the enthusiasm which was missing before was there. It started with a dance performance of his four new dancers to the sound of 'KajaGooGoo'. Originally of 'instrumental' origin was soon enriched with Limahl's voice and inimitable stage presence. After this 'Too Shy' and 'Love Is Blind' followed - at 'Love Is Blind' he demonstrated his German knowledge which is getting better and better as he also spoke a couple of lines in German.
As Thankyou for the fans who had voted for him during the Comeback Show Limahl gave a medley consisting of 'You To Me Are Everything', 'Never Can Say Goodbye' and 'The Way To Your Heart' at his best. As a special treat (absolutely correct ) he also performed the song for which he got the most votes: 'Can You Feel The Love Tonight' - not later than now it was time to light the sparklers and cigarette lighters. Following Limahl would test the singing talent of the audience. He began the songs 'Brown Girl In The Ring', 'Doo Wah Diddy', 'Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep' and 'Living Next Door To Alice' and the audience sang out loud the next lines. The end of the first part was 'The Neverending Story' - Limahl sang this song together with Yvonne (one of the two female dancers).
At the beginning of the second part, the dancers could prove their performance to the music of 'Inside To Outside'. The show went on with a medley of the 80s classics: 'Just Can't Get Enough' and 'Tainted Love'. Last but not least, Limahl presented another version of 'Too Shy' - it was the Special American Mix.
Unfortunately, this terrific performance was as soon over as it came. In summary, you can put on record: in Tripsdrill, Limahl could convince the audience of this voice and his very friendly manner, too ... and let's keep hoping that we can look forward to many more concert this year.
